June 2021, while working on some internal Blanco project, we took time to visit our coffee relatives in Bali Belantih Coffee Farm.

We share our knowledge with Wayan Wijaya about the coffee plantation history here in Bali and how he started the post-harvest manufacture named Belantih Coffee Farm. Wayan’s family is the fourth generation of his predecessor in coffee estate management. In 2017 He initiated building a big facility to process whole coffee cherries from his farm direct to his factory into value-added product specialty green coffee beans. With farmer-family history, hospitality, and tourism education background, Wayan can introduce and mentor about good coffee farming practice and post-harvest process to his employee whose dominated with the young generation and also his visitors both local and foreigner.

We find it amazing when Wayan accompanied us to visit his coffee farm which has operated since 1964 and has a unique variety compared with other producer regions. The variety such USDA and Kopyol are common here and it shows optimum growth, even though cultivated with orange trees. Wayan is quite a perfectionist in the coffee harvest, he only tolerates riped coffee cherries to be processed in a further step, that why we find his coffee taste exotic. He also implements full traceability practice in his farm by put every detail on a paper from farmer name, location, fermentation duration, methods until separated drying lot in his polytunnel.
